THE PIED PIPER
Playing Cards

In the Brothers Grimm version of "The Pied Piper," a mysterious piper arrives in Hameln in 1284, promising to rid the town of a rat infestation in exchange for payment. After using his pipe to lure the rats into the river where they drown, the townspeople refuse to pay him. In revenge, the Piper returns, playing his pipe once more, but this time leading 130 children out of the town, who disappear into a mountain. Only a few children are left behind, and the town records the tragic event in their history.
