Card Games for Every Occasion

Card games can provide hours of entertainment no matter where you are or who you're with. Everyone has at least one deck lying around the house. Next time you're hanging out with friends, having fun with your family, or drinking with your buddies, break out a deck and try some of these card games for any occasion.

The Best Games When You Want to Laugh

Are you hosting game night this week? Try adding these card games to your roster to shake things up.

Oh Hell:

This game goes by many others, including Up and Down the River, Bust, and its less kid-friendly name, Oh Sh**. In this trick-taking card game, Aces are high, and 2s are low, and you earn points by winning tricks.

Spoons:

Also known as Pig or Donkey, Spoons is a hilarious card game where players need to get a set of four matching cards so they can take a spoon from the center. The best part of this game is watching everyone scramble for a spoon! If you don't get a spoon, you're out.

The Best Games When You're Playing With Kids

Nothing says family bonding like playing a round of cards! There are so many kid-friendly card games to play.

Some of our favorites include the quintessential classic Go Fish, War, and Slapjack. If your kiddos want to try something different, Beggar My Neighbour and Crazy Eights and Snap are also super fun and age-appropriate!

The Best Games For a Large Group

Next time you want to keep the party going, try playing one of these fun large group-friendly card games. Just don't forget the snacks!

Blitz:

You may know Blitz as Scat, Thirty-One, or Ride the Bus. This game can be played with up to 12 people, making it the perfect casual card game for a big group. The aim of the game is to improve your three-card hand to be the player closest to 31 points in one suit.

Screw Your Neighbor:

Also called Cuckoo or Chase The Ace, Screw Your Neighbor can be played with 3 to 12 people. The goal of the game is to avoid being eliminated by losing your chips.

This is a fun game to play in a group because there's more luck than skill involved, making the playing field a little more even for everyone.

The Best Drinking Card Games

Nothing gets a pregame going like playing a drinking game! Whether you're in for the night or getting ready to go out, these drinking games always put everyone in a better mood.

Kings:

For this iconic drinking game, you'll need a standard deck of cards, a cup, and plenty of beer. The King's Cup is placed in the middle with all the players sitting around it.

Screw the Dealer:

Aside from the lude name, this game is another classic. In Screw the Dealer, players gather around the card table with their drinks. Everyone is dealt one card, and the player with the lowest card is the first dealer. The goal is to guess the value of the top card on the top of the deck.

The Best Out-of-the-Box Card Games

For those game nights when you want to forgo the classics for something a little more unique, Eleusis is an inventive card game with secret rules that determine which cards can be played on top of others.

The Best Two-Player Games

Do you need a unique date night idea? Instead of Netflix & Chill, why not try something new with a game of cards!

German Whist:

German Whist is a trick-taking game where every player needs to play a card, and the "trick" goes to the individual who played the highest valued card.

This perfect date night game is also called Honeymoon Whist!

Spit:

Spit, Speed, or Slam - whatever you like to call it is a fun, high-energy game that can get quite competitive. Both players have to play cards as quickly as they can.

Start the Game!

Playing cards can be a fun way to spend time with people of all ages. So whether you're prepping for your next family gathering or inviting the gang over for pre-drinks, try breaking out a card deck.
